Out of the Old West - A Horse inside the Blue Belle Saloon
Yepp, just like in the old’e west days a couple of horses stood inside the Blue Belle Saloon during Oklahoma’s Centennial Celebration in November of 2007.
The story goes that two cattleman were sitting in the back of the bar suckin’ down a few beers after appearing in the centennial parade when the owner of the bar, Vivian Jones, approached them to find out if they needed anything. They both said they were fine, unless she could do anything about allowing them to ride their horses up inside the bar. “I’ve always wanted to be able to ride my horse up into the Blue Belle Saloon.” Vivian thought for a while and then told them, “Why the hell not! A centennial celebration only comes around once every one hundred years- go get your horses.” Shortly afterwards, two quarter horses with two large cowboys dawned the doorway of the Blue Belle and made their way through, and past the patrons seated at the tables and the party was on. History was made, once again, at the Blue Belle Saloon.
We’re posting this in defiance of the super critical, Stepford Wives, snooty bitches that had more shit to say about this event than Jimmy Carter has liver pills. For a couple of weeks the rumor mill had it all over the corrupt town of Guthrie Oklahoma that Vivian Jones was ruining the reputation of the Blue Belle Saloon as a wild west museum, even if she did own and operate it as a working Cowboy saloon. Well, we got news for all you folks with so very little vision as to understand that acts like riding your horse into a piece of history is actually making history once again. And we have the images to prove it. Guthrie Oklahoma just became cool again by sticking to it’s historical roots and we’re proud that all of us at the Blue Belle could be a part of it- despite the Stepford Wives opinions about how the Blue Belle should be run.
The Blue Belle Saloon is the oldest, most historic saloon inside Oklahoma. It was purchased by Vivian Jones, a Missouri native, four years ago. Since then over $100,000 of renovations to the building have been made and now a building that was appraised at $400,000 almost five years ago is now worth over a half million dollars despite the economy’s effect on business. Sounds like a dream come true for any business person trying to scrape out a meager living. But that is the furthest thing from the truth.
